1. Scope
This policy covers refunds for everything you pay Mr Syn: subscriptions, contest entry fees, and purchases made through our checkout. It does not override any mandatory statutory right you have under Canadian, US federal, or state/provincial consumer law. In a conflict, the law wins.
2. Subscriptions (Pro and Elite)
You can cancel your Pro or Elite subscription any time from the app. Cancellation stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current paid period. If you cancel on day 1 of a monthly plan, you keep access through the end of that month.
- Pro-rated refund: not offered. You keep the features through the end of the billing period you paid for.
- Goodwill refunds: at our sole discretion we may refund a subscription period if you contact [email protected] within 14 days of the charge, have not used paid contests during that period, and have not received a prior goodwill refund in the last 12 months.
- Annual plans: pro-rated refunds are not available. If a technical defect makes the Service unusable for more than 30 consecutive days we will credit or refund pro-rata.
3. Contest Entry Fees
Entry fees fund the prize pool. How refunds work:
- Before the contest locks (the displayed start time): you can cancel your entry and receive a full refund. Refunds are issued through the original payment method, typically within 5 business days.
- After the contest locks: entry fees become part of the prize pool. They are not refundable under any circumstances, including injury, device failure, weather, network outage on your side, or inability to complete the task. This is the core design of a skill contest and is made clear before you pay.
- Contest cancelled by Mr Syn (insufficient entrants, safety reason, operator error, regulatory order): full refund of your entry fee, automatically, to the original payment method.
- Duplicate or accidental charge: full refund within 10 business days of you contacting support.
4. Forfeited Stakes
If you enter a contest and do not meet the completion criteria by the deadline, your entry fee is forfeited and redistributed to the Winners per the contest's published rules. Forfeited fees are not refundable. Life circumstances do not qualify for a refund. This is the point of staking real money on your own performance and is disclosed at entry. See the Terms of Service and Skill Contest Rules.
5. Payment Processing (Stripe, not IAP)
All payments on Mr Syn — challenge entry fees, subscriptions, and prize payouts — are processed through Stripe. Specifically, Stripe Connect Express is used for payouts and Stripe Checkout / the Stripe SDK is used for entry fees and subscriptions. Mr Syn does not use Apple In-App Purchases (IAP) for any of these transactions, so refund requests come to us directly rather than through Apple or Google. Refunds are issued back to the original card on file via Stripe.
Challenge entry fees are paid into a real-world cash prize pool, and prize payouts are real-world cash transfers to winners' bank accounts. Under App Store Review Guideline 3.1.3(a) ("Goods and Services Outside of the App"), purchases of physical goods and real-world services may use payment methods other than Apple IAP.
Email us at [email protected] for any refund question. If in the future a subscription is ever routed through the App Store or Google Play, the App Store or Google refund rules will apply to that purchase and we will say so clearly at checkout.
6. Payout Reversals
If a contest payout was sent in error (for example, because a Winner was later found to have violated the rules), we may reverse or claw back the payout. You agree to assist with the return of funds paid in error.
7. Chargebacks
Please contact [email protected] before filing a chargeback. Many disputes are faster and easier to resolve directly with us. A chargeback on a locked contest entry, a completed subscription period you used, or a skill-contest payout you received can result in account suspension and is subject to full representment.
We reserve the right to recover chargeback fees from your balance and to block further use of the payment method if the dispute is reversed in our favor.
8. How to Request a Refund
Email [email protected] with subject "Refund request" and include:
- The email on your Mr Syn account.
- The approximate date and amount of the charge.
- The contest ID or order ID, if you have it.
- A short description of the issue.
We reply within two business days and resolve within ten.
9. Statutory Rights
Nothing in this policy limits rights you have that cannot be waived under Canadian, US federal, state, or provincial consumer-protection law (for example, the FTC Act, California's Automatic Renewal Law, Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, or Quebec's Consumer Protection Act). If a provision here conflicts with a mandatory right, that provision is adjusted to the minimum extent needed to comply.
